BKA Basic Assessment 2023

The BKA Basic Assessment is the basic beekeeping qualification of the British Beekeepers Association. It enables candidates to show they are a competent beekeeper with a basic understanding of good beekeeping husbandry, and it also provides the foundation to complete other practical beekeeping assessments.

To be eligible to take the assessment, candidates must have been keeping their own bees for at least a year.

To help members prepare and successfully complete the Basic Assessment we are planning to run a course starting in April 2023 and finishing with the practical assessment in June.  The course consists of 4 x taught sessions and 2 x practical sessions & a mock assessment.

The course

Session 1 – Introduction.  Tuesday, 18th April, 7.30-8.30.  All theory sessions will be held by zoom.

Outline of the course & the assessment, syllabus, provisional dates for practical sessions & the assessment, payment of fees and exam entry.  This is a chance to find out more about the course & the assessment before you pay.

Session 2 – Natural History.     Tuesday, 2nd May, 7.30-9.00

Session 3 – Swarming.      Tuesday, 9th May, 7.30-9.00.
